A pair of World War II surplus GM 4-71 diesel engines that had been installed in 1962 were still in good condition, and her hull was sound, but her houses were full of rot and parts of her interior joinery had been gutted in an aborted attempt to reconfigure Kensington as a liveaboard. (Thankfully, the would-be remodeler had not thrown away anything he had removed.) Above, repairs to Kensington's wheelhouse and trunk cabin are underway, March-April, 1983.
